Suspense in 'Shining'
Suspense is created in the movie ‘Shining in terms of sound, story plot and camera shots. The tension builds up from the start of the film when the psychopath caretaker murdered his family in the hotel and now that the new caretaker is overtaking his place. We as an audience realize the situation will occur again. When the Owner of the hotel tell the new caretaker what has happened before him the camera zoom slowly into a close up of his face which highlights a suspense occurring. Sound and immense camera movements and shots are vital elements in triggering suspense and awaken the audience keeping them satisfied and thrilled.
There are astonishing camera movements such as tracking of the little boy riding his pedal car in the hotel. The camera tracks the moving vehicle from behind at a steady pace. This tracking movement disables the audience to see what is behind the corners before the boy turn to the side and make the audience expect anything could happen at a sudden rate.
The sound is an absolutely crucial aspect in terms of creating suspense. This is due to loud fast pace, deep bass diegetic sound at a foundation of a scene erupts the suspense immediately. We as an audience get engaged in the film so much as to feel the occurrence strongly. Jack
